The protected area of the Medes Islands

For many years the islands´ rich assets have encouraged man to exploit the islands, harming the natural balance. Halfway through this century due to advance technology exploitation had reached its limit - accelerating the degeneration of the natural environment. Fortunately, in 1983 there fishing was banned introduced around the islands. In 1990 new laws were bought in to protect and conserve the fauna and the flora of the sea and the protected area was increased, converting the Medes Islands in to one of the most important Marine parks in the Mediterranean – and for diving lovers a must to visit.
